2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE vs 2017 BMW X5

Serving North Olmsted, Columbus, and Westlake, OH

Available in three editions, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE is an SUV that combines luxury with smart performance. The 2017 BMW X5 is a premium SUV that comes in five trims. Equipped with the 4MATIC All-Wheel Drive, DYNAMIC SELECT and AGILITY CONTROL suspension, the GLE is more versatile and agile than the BMW X5. This family-friendly Mercedes-Benz also boasts more than 10 accident-avoidance features, such as the Active Brake Assist and DISTRONIC

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 is driven by a 3.5 L V6 engine that whips out up to 302 horsepower at 6,500 RPM and 273 pound-feet of torque at over 3,500 RPM. Installed in the GLE 550e trim, a hybrid powertrain yields up to 436 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. A turbocharged gas engine, electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack make up the hybrid system. The E-BOOST technology contributes to such an impressive output from an economical powertrain. Standard in the BMW X5 sDrive35i and X5 xDrive35i, the 3.0 L TwinPower V6 engine is rated at 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. Powered by diesel fuel, the 3.0 L TwinPower V6 engine in the X5 xDrive35d produces up to 255 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. The 2.0 L TwinPower engine is standard in the X5 xDrive40e iPerformance, which is a plug-in hybrid model. Additionally, the X5 xDrive50i is propelled by the 4.4 L TwinPower V8 engine that generates 445 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque.

Equipped with the AGILITY CONTROL suspension system, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE offers a smooth ride on rough, bumpy or uneven roads. This sophisticated suspension automatically calibrates the shock absorbers in order to compensate for vibrations and other harsh forces from the ground. By releasing or holding air, valves control the damping rates and other parameters in real time. Optional in the GLE 550e model, the AIRMATIC suspension system automatically adjusts in height in order to reduce aerodynamic drag and improve overall stability. This versatile Mercedes-Benz SUV also comes with the DYNAMIC SELECT technology that optimizes the powertrain for a truly custom drive. The Slippery Mode and Off-Road Mode maximize traction in hazardous situations. To enjoy a thrilling ride on an open highway, simply activate the Sport Mode. The Comfort Mode is ideally suitable for low-speed cruising on urban and suburban roads. Rolling on the 4MATIC All-Wheel Drive, the GLE SUV grips any paved surface very well. Similarly, the BMW X5’s xDrive AWD system generates reliable traction on any pavement.

The Active Brake Assist in the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE helps you avoid bumping into another car. This radar-powered technology is available with the Cross-Traffic function that’s very useful at busy intersections. The Lane Keeping Assist and Active Blind Spot Assist provide prompt help for situations that may result in a side collision. Powered by the DISTRONIC technology, the Distance Pilot keeps the vehicle rolling safely on cruise control. This Mercedes-Benz SUV also offers the Steering Pilot that compensates for unintentional drifting, swerving and other erratic maneuvers on the road. Although it has the BMW Assist eCall, the BMW X5 doesn’t even come close to matching the accident-avoidance features that are available in the GLE SUV.

Come to our dealership and enjoy a ride in the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE. You’ll surely understand that this premium Mercedes-Benz SUV is more sophisticated than the BMW X5.
